Why networking matters

Soni Rocks: Why networking matters

Staying connected is important especially this day and age. Find out all about the importance of networking and why it matters here at Soni Rocks. The reason why you need networking is because… It’s Free!

There are no costs associated with networking whatsoever. You get to meet people without having to pay anything whatsoever. In some cases, you might even be able to get some free advertising from some of the people you meet this way. And best of all, there’s absolutely no risk involved. If someone doesn’t like what they hear or learn when they talk to you, they can easily ignore you and never give you another thought. On the other hand, if someone likes what they hear or learns from you, they might end up being a big customer for you and/or spreading the word about you to their friends, colleagues and/or associates. Either way, it’s free. What could be better? Consider this: Let’s say one of your friends has been laid off and is looking for a new job. Wouldn’t it be great if you knew of someone who was hiring right now? How about if that person was only looking for the exact type of individual your friend is qualified to work for? In many cases, this sort of thing can actually happen. And it’s free. All you have to do is meet some people. Another example: Say you own a carpet cleaning business and you want to expand your business.

Second is because it’s an effective way to get your name out there. It’s also a great way to make some money. Networking can take many different forms. There’s the more obvious kinds like talking with people, letting them talk about themselves and listening carefully to what they have to say. But networking can also take place through organizations. By becoming a member of an organization you automatically become part of its network. Then you can go out and meet other members of that network in person. This is called “person-to-person networking”. Or you can stay connected by using technology. You can join a business networking site like [www.Linkedin.com](http://www.Linkedin.com). On this site you can put up a profile which will allow you to search for other people with common interests. If you are on this site you can also send messages to other people offering help with projects or asking for referrals. Another way to use technology for networking is through podcasts. There are lots of sites on the Internet where you can get info on everything from fashion to politics to health to music to gossip. But there is also info on things you are actually passionate about. Like playing poker. There are lots of places you can get info on playing poker and even podcasts you can listen to on the subject.
